Description of PROCES-DATA's test and calibration procedure for PD340 Flow Transmitters
For use when implementing quality management (EN29000 / BS5750).
The test is carried out in PROCES-DATA’s test bench, using the PD3230 weight with serial number 1220512 as reference.
All new Flow Transmitter as well as Flow Transmitters returned to PROCES-DATA for test or service undergo the following
test procedure:
From the water reservoir the water is pumped through a number of Flow Transmitters, through an on/off valve and an
electrically controlled regulating valve on to a weighing hopper with a temperature detector mounted at the bottom.
The test procedure, which is 100% computerized, consists of the following steps:
1. The system is filled with water from the reservoir. The water level in the weighing hopper is 10 cm.
2. The regulating valve is adjusted to a position to meet the required flow rate.
3. The pump is started with on/off valve 1 closed.
4. The weighing hopper is tared.
5. The on/off valve 1 is opened.
6. On/off valve 1 is closed when the set-point is reached.
7. When the flow has stopped, weight and temperature of the water is read.
8. The weight of water *) is converted to litres from tables of mass of water as a function of temperature.
If standard pressure (atmospheric) is used, then relative density tables give a direct value.
9. The weighing hopper is drained through on/off valve 2 until the water level is 10 cm from the bottom.
To perform a new measurement, start from 2 again.
The measurement result from the flow meter is compared to the measurement result of the test bench (weighing hopper) and the
flow meter’s deviation in % is calculated as:
An additional reference Flow Transmitter is mounted in the system in order to determine possible errors in the weighing system.
In case a conflict arises between the reference Flow Transmitter and the weighing system, the test is terminated and an alarm
will call the operator.
The weighing system has an accuracy better than +/-0.25 kg equivalent to +/-0.042 %.
The weight is traceable to National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, United Kingdom.
*) When the weighing hopper is tared, it contains atmospheric air with a mass of 1.15 kg/m³. Filling the weighing hopper with water will displace a volume of atmospheric air equal to the volume of the water.
The measuring result is corrected in accordance with the mass of the displaced air.
